Less Traffic, More Elevation
3N16: Exploring Near Big Bear From Green Valley Lake to Baldwin Lake
We met friends at the trailhead in near Green Valley Lake to spend the day exploring the lengths of forest road 3N16. The winding dirt trail offered amazing views at every turn and took us throughout the beautiful Holcomb Valley area. Take a look at what the day had in store for us!

Spending A Day On The Trails Above 7,000 Ft
This adventure took us up to the beautiful San Bernardino mountains where we explored the trail known as forest road 3N16 from end to end. The weather was perfect at 75°F and sunny as we met up and headed out just after noon. The trail itself is a relatively well maintained dirt trail, with a few chances to tackle an obstacle peppered in along the way. Every turn offered another striking view of the surrounding mountains and valleys and we came across very little cross traffic – except for the 100 dirt bikes who came past us in the beginning!
When it was finally time to stop for lunch we found a shady spot near a bend in the road and our friends proceeded to treat us to a delicious Chinese hot pot style meal. They brought SO MUCH FOOD! There was endless thinly sliced meats & fresh veggies of all sorts and we didn’t get through nearly all that they brought!
It’s hard to get back on the trail after an epic lunch like that, but we still had a ways to go to finish out the day. We reached a campground after a bit, which was a welcome pit stop, and from their we wound out way through the rest of the trail which came to an end near the transfer station, just before sunset.
This was our first time in the area and on this trail; we really enjoyed it and had the perfect day for it too! There are so many other trails that connect to this one, we can’t wait to go up there again sometime and explore even further.

A Sweet Treat For The Journey Home
After spending all day on the trails, we still had an hour and a half drive home. What better way to recharge than a sweet, caffeinated treat before hitting the highway! We headed into town and used the Starbucks gift card I had to get a yummy beverage for each of us. I got a Carmel Ribbon Crunch frappucino and Jesse got an iced pumpkin spice latte (one of us is more of a basic b*tch than then other…). Both drinks really hit the spot and we made our way down the mountain just as the sun was beginning to set. We didn’t leave Disco out – she’s just picky about her pup cups, she prefers certain whip creams over others apparently, so we didn’t get her one this time.
